Interventional and Heart Failure Cardiologist

Qualifications

Dr Victar Hsieh graduated from University of Sydney in 2000. He underwent advanced cardiology training at Gosford Hospital and Liverpool Hospital. He has been in clinical practice as a Cardiologist since 2006.
 
Dr Hsieh obtained his PhD degree at University of New South Wales. His basic science research focused on cholesterol metabolism in diabetes. In particular, his research characterised the properties of cholesterol transporters in white blood cells in arterial plaque disease.
 
Dr Hsieh is also Conjoint Senior Lecturer at UNSW. He is involved in clinical training in the St George and Sutherland Clinical School.

Expertise

Dr Hsieh was a recipient of Cardio Vascular Lipid Research Grant (Pfizer Australia 2007), NHMRC Macrophage Biology Scholarship (UNSW) 2007-2009, and New Investigator Grant (McMaster University, Ontario Canada 2012). 

Dr Hsieh underwent interventional cardiology fellowship training at Hamilton General Hospital, Ontario, Canada. His training focused on coronary artery intervention with stenting (angioplasty) in patients with stable coronary disease and myocardial infarction. He also completed cardiac CT fellowship in Canada, and is an accredited cardiac CT reporter and supervisor. 

Dr Hsieh’s clinical expertise includes coronary intervention, heart failure management and cardiac CT. He is a consultant cardiologist at St George Public Hospital, where he is co-director of Cardiac CT training program and oversees the heart failure service.

His current research interests include macrophage cholesterol export in human atherosclerosis, mechanical cardiac compression device, integrated heart failure management strategies and coronary CT.
